“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice anywhere.” This quote spoken by Martin Luther King Jr. is the theme I chose in creating my artwork. I chose this theme based on the truth behind those words since as shown injustice in one place has affected the implementation of justice in various other places. The case studies I decided to focus on where the Black Lives Matter protests, the Kafala system (a means for abusing domestic workers, most prominently seen in the Middle East); the Rohingya crisis; the Uighur Muslim concentration camps in China; the SARS police unit in Nigeria; the Yemen war; the Syria war; the results of a corrupt & failed government in Lebanon; the anti-Pu protests in Russia, and finally the human rights abuses conducted by Israeli police/military units in Palestine. Although those are the documented forms of human rights abuses in the artwork, it is essential to bear in mind the numerous others occurring on a daily basis around the world. In addition, on top of all the articles documenting said human rights abuses, there’s a figure with a “money hand” (consisting of the top 3 most traded currencies around the world, the US Dollar, British Pound, and Euro), using the money to cover up said forms of human rights protests/documented violations via government and media suppression.
